In England, you will gain an accredited Level 2 qualification.

In Scotland, this course is comparable to a Level 5 based on the Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework. Upon completion of the course, learners in Scotland will receive a digital e-certificate issued by your college.

Upon completion of this children’s mental health course, your employees could progress on to study the Level 3 Certificate in Understanding Mental Health.

    Unit 1: Understand children and young people’s mental health in context

    In this unit your employees will be introduced to the concept of mental health, the legislation and guidance that applies to children and young people’s mental health, and how society views mental health.

    Unit 2: Understand factors which may affect children and young people’s mental health

    Within this unit your employees will cover risk factors which may affect the well-being of children and young people, the potential effects of puberty and developmental changes on mental health, and how abuse or bullying may affect the mental health of children or young people.

    Unit 3: Understand children and young people’s mental health concerns

    Your employees will learn about behaviour that is associated with mental health concerns in children and young people, stress, anxiety and depression in children and young people, and about specific mental health conditions that children and young people may experience.

    Unit 4: Understand the impact of children and young people’s mental health concerns

    This unit will introduce your employees to the impact mental health concerns can have on children and young people and the impact these concerns can have on others, as well as the importance of being diagnosed with a mental health problem.

    Unit 5: Understand how to support children and young people with mental health concerns

    In this unit, your employees will look at person-centred approaches to supporting children and young people with mental health concerns, how to promote mental well-being in children and young people, and services and treatments involved with children and young people’s mental health.
